Bezbaroa's works uploaded on app - Project aims to widen doyen's readership RAJIV KONWAR
Himjyoti Talukdar (extreme right) and other members of Sahityarathi.com release the app in Guwahati. Telegraph picture Guwahati, April 25: The works of Lakshminath Bezbaroa, the doyen of Assamese language and literature, are now available on the Android. A team of youths from the state has developed an app, Sahityarathi, so that Bezbaroa's vast body of works can "reach today's youth in a form which is appropriate to the present times" and not remain confined to books. The app claims to contain the litterateur's works as "Bezbaroa had written them". "We have not edited any of the literary creations of the great writer in this project. The writings have been included in this project in exactly the same form (spellings, compound letter, etc) in which late Bezbaroa had written them," says a note in the introduction to the app. The app is free for download and once downloaded, it can be accessed offline. Himjyoti Talukdar, head of the project on Bezbaroa, which has launched the website and the app, said currently the app contains poems, short stories, novels, children's literature and plays written by Bezbaroa and it will be updated later. Talukdar, who is a filmmaker by profession, said as all the people involved in the project were volunteers and Bezbaroa had a large number of works to his credit, they could offer only around 30 per cent of his works now. "But we will make all works of Bezbaroa available in the subsequent updates of the app," he added. The app offers rare photographs of Bezbaroa and critical reviews of his works under different heads like Life and Works, Original Works, Photo Archive and Articles. As Bezbaroa's works are over 100 years old, they are free from copyright and can be published or distributed by any publication or organisation even for commercial purposes. The app was developed by Rakesh Gogoi, Heerok Hazarika and Ashish Batra, three Gurgaon-based engineers. While Gogoi and Hazarika are from Assam, Batra hails from Gurgaon. The app's developers had also launched a website sahityarathi.com in 2013 with Bezbaroa's writings. Talukdar told The Telegraph that the app was a part of Let's Preserve Foundation, which he had set up to digitise the cultural heritage of Assam. "Currently the foundation is working on four popular websites - enajori.com, xurorenajori.info, sahityarathi.com and dipalibarthakur.info," he said. Enajori.com won the World Summit Award in 2013 (Colombo) and Manthan South Asia & Asia Pacific Award in 2012 (New Delhi) for its endeavour towards digitisation of the cultural heritage of Assam. Xurorenajori.info contains approximately 1,800 old Assamese tracks (including gramophone songs). http://epaper.telegraphindia.com/details/184179-135126242.html (The Telegraph,26.04.2016) App Link : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=enajori.sahityarathi&hl=en ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ সমাজৰ কাৰণে ভাল কাম কৰাজনৰ পৰিচয় ৰাইজৰ আগত দাঙি ধৰিব লাগে আৰু ভাল খবৰবোৰ যিমান পাৰি ৰাইজৰ মাজত বিলাব লাগে। ---- বুলজিৎ বুঢ়াগোহাঁই _______________________________________________ assam mailing list [email protected] http://assamnet.org/mailman/listinfo/assam_assamnet.org
