JFA condemns scribes’murders in central India
Guwahati: Journalists’ ForumAssam (JFA) expressed shock over the murder of two
scribes in separateincidents in central India and urged the authorities to
punish the culpritsunder the law. The forum also appealed to the media
fraternity of the countryto get united in the process of delivering justice to
the victim families withdistinctive punishment to each & every single
perpetrator.
According to the localmedia, a journalist of north Bihar (Rajdeo Ranjan) was
shot dead byunidentified gunmen on 13 May 2016. Engaged with Hindi newspaper
named Hindustan, Ranjan, 45, died on the way to hospital afterhe was targeted
by the miscreants near to Siwan railway station in Siwandistrict.
Earlier another journalistwas gunned down by unidentified people on the
previous night at Dewarialocality in Chatra district of Jharkhand. Akhilesh
Pratap Singh (also known as Indradev Yadav), 35, who worked for Taza
televisionfaced the bullets of goons in front of thevillage Panchayat office.
He also died on way to the hospital.
“We demand stringent actionsagainst the culprits who dared to target media
persons. Bihar chief ministerNitish Kumar and Jharkhand chief minister Raghubar
Das must wake up to nab thekillers at the earliest,” said a statement issued by
JFA president Rupam Baruaand secretary Nava Thakuria.
India as a whole lost threescribes to assailants till date this year as the
first incident reported fromUttar Pradesh. Tarun Mishra, 32, who used to work
for a Hindi daily (JanSandesh Times), was shot dead on 13 February at Gosaiganj
locality in Sultanpur district.
The robust media fraternityof the populous country lost five journalists namely
Jagendra Singh (UP),Sandeep Kothari (Madhya Pradesh), Raghavendra Dube
(Maharashtra), Hemant Yadav(UP) and Mithilesh Pandey (Bihar) to attackers last
year.
The JFA reiterated its olddemand for a special protection law for the working
journalists across thecountry and called upon the Union government in New Delhi
to formulate anational action plan as soon as possible to safeguard the
brave-hearts whopursue critical journalism.
