No, you are not. You are just stuck in the 19th century and do
not or refuse to see the whole picture in a progressive way.

By using electronic means -

        a) you save trees - I guess the asians never learnt
to care about the environment anyway. It is not
           your backyard, right ?

        b) you save administrative costs - which will in the
long run tantamount to decreased taxes

        c) you save the extra trip to the local bank or to
the post office and not worry about timing and
such. You increase your own productivity and
           thereby of the country's workforce.

Sure, some from the dark ages would say that they like and value
the feeling of the bartering system !

    > And in Singapore and India, I recieved discounts

That must have been in the indian locality of singapore, I am
certain. Because if you go to the main stream singapore areas and
jewellery boutiques, they know that they will lose out on
business if they do not accept credit cards because not many
singaporeans are likely to carry cash around. As such, they will
definitely accept cards and give you discounts too for using it.

And the main reason why those jewellery shops, located mainly in
the indian neighbourhood of Singapore, offer discount for cash
could be that, that sale will not be booked and thus they will
evade corporate taxes by showing lower sales. Of course, then,
they will not mind extending the small 5% discount to you.
