Dear Baruah:

Thanks for your input about your family's involvement in Assam Tea. I would be interested to know the following:

1) What is the present % of Assam Tea production to the world market. (At one time, if I remeber it was something like 40%).

2) What is the prsent % of Assam tea production to the India's tea production.
3) How is the Tea Industry in general with special reference to Assam?

4) How much of Assam Tea industry today is controlled by local Assamese like you and how much by non Assamese?

5) How is the Tea Research Center in Tokolai, Jorhat doing?

6) How much of Assam Tea is exported and to what countries and in what form (Loose tea, tea bags etc).?

7) Lastly, as you know Tea is not yet very popular in America. What they drink is mostly in the form of Iced Tea etc. Is Assam exporting any of this Iced Tea?

Sorry. May be I asked too many questions, but you seem to be one who may have these answers?

I am from Jorhat and a friend of Lal (are we in the same batch?).  BTW I am a cousin of Rana Pratap Baruah and his brothers who are also the great grand sons of Maniram Dewan.

Thanks

Rajen Barua, Houston.
