Hi C'da:
I don't know much about Delhi, but to me every place could be dangerous, and Delhi might have been a relatively more dangerous place.
I heard in the radio this morning that in the parking garage in Galleria (an expensive shopping mall for the elites in Houston), 4 women were assaulted recently.
So, what do we make of it? Get it connected and make that being the reason of unemployment and slow development in some underdeveloped area in say, Idaho, or better even, in Timbuktu? :)
It is unfortunate that it happened - no matter where or to whom - but it happened to a woman.
>Why do you think it is going the way it is?
Because men that don't have any respect for women are everywhere? And that it is in the rise as the punishment for rape (7 years?) is not "good" enough? that they need to be caught and thrown in jail for life? I am not sure about death penalty, castratation etc., even though some of my women friends/acquaintance do recommend that sort of punishment too.
>And why did it take a 'phoren' diplomat's rape to bring attention to the >problem? Don't Indian women's plight count?
Yes, I do think that it brought more attention because it happened to a foreign national, and it is a shame that it happened first: to a woman and secondly, that too, to a foreign national. Moreover, it happened in Delhi - so it caught attention in TOI - it is sort of local newspaper for Delhi that just got famous nationally, isn't it? Excuse my ignorance, but thats what I think.

Certainly not a good feeling, yes, for any human being. But it also reminded me of the horrible crime that little Bornali was victim of, right there in our own Guwahati. So, what can I say?
I hope that those two culprits are caught and punished heavily or else them and the other perverts everywhere, will not stop preying on women.
Good to see the web getting relatively normal - last few weeks have been terrible, it was hectic and almost no movement in the net, if you delete the messages that you don't want to read, that is. :)
Regards,
