Objectionable attire
Sir,— I had the good (read : mis) fortune to attend a charity show and dinner at   a city hotel  recently.  There, I was amazed to see how some people dressed. One lady —a small time singer I was told, wore a very thin frock, more suited for a schoolgirl. Another, rather short lady in six inch heels was wearing a skirt and a  blouse strategically placed to expose her  bare midriff while dancing. Two other ladies were wearing so tight pants and flat tops that the garments could have burst in their seams any moment. There were a few more in equally vulgar outfits. All of them were desperately trying to pass-off as teenagers.

The interesting part is that all these ladies were married women with kids. They were trying to outdo each other in the display of their ungainly figures. I wonder why the husbands allow their  wives to pretend like teenagers and not like dignified women of society.

The actual teenagers (there were very few  of them) wore decent dresses and looked fresh and attractive. The teenagers must have secretly sniggered at the pretenders.

The gents were more appropriately dressed except for a few odd ones sporting ear-rings. One  person had long curly hair flowing up to his shoulders. Another with long hair and a bandana, looked equally stupid.

The party went on up to the wee hours of the morning. The married women in their exhibitionist attire had a gala time at the expense of their husbands. Let their tribe increase and the rot sink in deeper and deeper. —Yours etc., S K BHUTANI, Harisabha, Panbazar, Guwahati.
