Hi,

I just read two front page articles in Hindustan Times and Rajasthan patrika - on Rahul Gandhi - the good-for-nothing son - of the Guiness Record holder family - for having the longest line of descendents as Prime Ministers in a democratic nation.

It is very easy to call someone a good-for-nothing son --I think all fathers -or atleast most of them have called their sons so -- at some point in their lives. I too have had the pleasure of hearing this remark made about myself - a number of times.

But every time I toughen myself up - by recallling the various acheivements of mine --in the past years.

I may not be equal to an Einstein or Dhiru Bhai Ambani (I think at my age they too were not shining -- but like me they were struggling) but I can safely consider myself above the "royals" of the past and present - Manu sharma - grandson of Congress leader and past president of India - who shot a model in broad nightlight ;   "BMW Nanda" who crushed 6 poor people under his BMW in Delhi; Laloo Yadav's daughter - who used her clout tto get admission and top rank in Patna Medical college and got 60 Tata Indica cars out of the showroom for her wedding!! -without permission. The list is endless.

But I do draw a line a Salman Khan -- bad habits - but he cannot be called good-for-nothing -- he made his place in the tinsel town -some achievement!

but what has Rahul Gandhi achieved to date?

Nothing beyond his fabulous reach.

The royals had a finishing school ideology for their scions -- Mayo/Doon then Oxford/ Cambridge -- it has become Harvard.

Join a easy entry course there - like the extension school --which has not entrance test (GRE< GMAT) requirement -- and lo behold -- u have arrived!! Harvard returned.

I would have been the first person to welcome Rahul or Rajiv Gandhi --had they worked very hard at their Alma Maters - like Homi J. Bhabha did at Oxford/Cambridge (I'm forgetting exactly which) or Amartya k Sen, Suntra Ghoshal at Harvard--- but just throwing sand in people's eyes -- like the film starlets like Monica Lewinsky --who try to shine in reflected glory -- by getting their name linked to a famous brand. Bill Clinton - in case of Monica and Harvard Univ - in case of Rahul Gandhi.

And who does not know that admission to St Stephen's college, Delhi - requires much more than high marks.

I too had got admission offer - to appear for the interview - for History honors course in St Stephen's - the same as Rahul Gandhi - though a year later -- but for one I did not like to play second fiddle to seniors like Rahul who had made the entire area a Z-security zone --secondly I was interested more in the country's future - the economy --NOT its history and mystery   . Moreover I did not have the contacts to clear the interview - nor the desire to join a course with my head bowed - as my contacts and background would matter more than my actual worth --in that college - whose admission interview was so skewed.

I still think that politics is the last refuge of the scoundrel - but it is better to have an intelligent enemy than a foolish friend -- Rahul Gandhi is neither. Intelligence he hasn't demostrated in 33 years (one third of his total life) real friends he doesn't seem to have cultivated - of the Jai-Vijay kind (what was the name of Dharmendra and Amitabh in Sholay movie?)

Isn't it high time that some of us middle-class folks -- who DO think they are much better than Rahul Gandhi -- do something about -NOT letting the Rahul-Priyanka-Sonia combine continue to maintain their family's Guiness World Record??
