Thanks so much for the complete information, Chitta-Ranjan.

Recently, I searched for 'ongo-bostro' (I see this used by my in-laws on many auspicious occasions) for my father and brother to wear for my mother's ceremony, in all the 'goli's in Guwahati, but nobody knew what I was talking about! Ultimately, one store owner sold me a couple of 'saadors' - north-Indian style, and one Bodo woman later mentioned 'seleng-saador'....so much for my not knowing the proper term.

I see my father wearing 'eri saador' all the time - he looks regal with that, but I think the 'seleng-saador' is made of cotton.

Thanks again and it was good to hear from you. I am also grateful to all my friends (will write to you) who sent info about the 'seleng saador'. Most said it is for men, but some said it is worn by women also. Now that I know a little, I will explore more in villages, when I visit my father next.
