Subject: [jonaki] Who resides in your heart? - A musical
journey Raiz,
If you were to ask that question to the most eligible bachelor in the
Jonaki community, he would reply "Dhadkan Mein Tu Hi Tu". I know, I know. The
suspense is killing you.
Drum roll......and he is none other than the "former" Jonaki guitarist,
lead singer of the Bihu dol and EDA engineer (on the side) - Hemanga Lal
Das. Hemang Das in his new avatar is all set to capture the world of Hindi pop
music with his maiden album "Dhadkan Mein Tu Hi Tu".
Produced by HOM Records of Mumbai and music composed by
Hemanga, "Dhadkan.." is an exceptionally high quality product in every
aspect - lyrics, music composition and rendition, promotional video
cinematography and the CD jacket. The songs were recorded in Guwahati,
the entire team of musicians being local. The songs were finally mixed in
Mumbai.
"Dhadkan.." is a refreshing change from the usual recycled music making the
rounds in the Hindi pop world. Although hard to pick from the eight songs, my
favorites are the title track "Dhadkan Mein Tu Hi Tu", "Jing Mahiya", and
the foot-taping "Dil Ga Re" and "Laila".
The promotional video was being aired in India in the last couple of months
on mainstream channels like V channel, B4U and SAB TV, to name a few. It is
tastefully done, although I felt that Hemanga with his boyish good looks could
have acted as the hero instead of the ruggedly handsome Hindi actor. The heroine
has acted in Hindi TV serials and is on her way to making movies in the
Deccan.
The "a" has been dropped from Hemang(a). Sort of a "screen" name. So if you
search the internet, make sure you drop it too. Some websites where you can
sample the music are:
www.hemangdas.com - Hemanga's
homepage
http://ww.smashits.com/index.cfm -
check the pop section (alphabet D)
Final thoughts - if "Dhadkan..." is a harbinger of things to come, then
Hemanga will soon be counted in the same league as Sonu Nigam and Shaan for his
voice and Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy trio for his compositions. Here's wishing Hemanga
the very best in pursuing a dream which he has harbored for a long time.
Meanwhile, SUN Microsystems may be witnessing musical history and have in some
contorted way featured itself in the Hindi pop world. Take that Microsoft
;-)
Warm regards,
Monalisa
