Dear Rick and Nick:
I got both the letters from you all, and the CD too now. I thank you for sending the CD to me. I was waiting to reply after I got and listened to the CD. I could have acknowledged the first letter itself - I apologize for not doing that.
You both sang the songs very well. The tune is good. Your voice and pronounciation are just great. The music is terrific and will be soothing to any Assamese heart, especially for the ones that are away.
I just admire you both for taking up such a bold step at this young age - collecting the lyrics, the tune, and having the idea of recording into CDs. And whoever played the 'bahi' (is it?), the keyboard and the 'tabla' were just great.
I have copied Assam Net - an electronic mailing list of many of your uncles and aunties from Assam. Hope you don't mind my copying it to the net.
The 'nisukoni geet' has a special place in my heart and in our home. This was our son's favorite lullaby. We could make out - right from the time when he was just 6 months old.
Thank you for collecting, singing and sending the song to us.
We wish you all success.
With best wishes again,
- Auntie.
PS: Everybody, please join me in congratulating these two Assamese youths for taking up a very thoughtful and creative project. You might be remembering the mail from them a few weeks ago, that they have taken up a project to collect and sing Bor-geet, Nisukoni-geet, Biya-naam etc., (all rare items) in Assamese.
