Bangkok Airways flight to London via Guwahati
By A Staff Reporter
GUWAHATI, March 3 The Bangkok Airways is planning to introduce a flight to London via Guwahati and include the North Eastern region in the package formulated for the tourists of the European countries. This was disclosed by Dr Prasert Prasarttong Osoth, president and CEO of Bangkok Airways and the head of the Thailand delegation visiting the region to study the feasibilities of tourism and trade potential in the region.

Addressing a press conference here this evening, the head of the Thai delegation revealed that a good number of tourists from the European countries visit Thailand and the North East region can easily be included in the package for tourists because the air travel time between Guwahati and Bangkok is only about one and half hours. He also suggested that the visa formalities for the Thai tourists visiting the North East should be relaxed and a system of giving visas on arrival should be introduced to attract tourists. The Chief Minister, Tarun Gogoi, who was also present in the Press conference, assured that he would take up the matter with the Government of India.

The Thai delegation, which visited several places of tourist attraction in the state including the Kaziranga National Park, said that they were stunned by the beauty of Assam and admitted that the State has tremendous tourism potential. They said that the Guwahati-Bangkok flight would improve relations between the people of Thailand and North East region of India apart from giving a boost to tourism.

The Chief Minister presented every member of the delegation with a copy of the History of Assam by Edward Gait and said that the visit of the delegation would give a boost to tourism, trade and commerce.
