Dear Anjan

Anjan

Happy Rongali Bihu!

Vintage credit of 73 years of a non-sheltered life (that means poor quality grapes,eh!).

For some time I worked at the Assam PWD Secretariat in the fifties. The day I joined, your father was on leave on medical grounds. I know how he must have felt because I also experienced disappointment and years of mental torture while in Government service. But my troubles were somewhat different.  I am really sorry if I had hurt your sentiments  by mentioning your father but rest assured I had great respect for your late father and read one or two of his books.

I saw your father at various public meetings. At a meeting in Shillong he said that one of his greatest mistakes in  life was to publish his books in Assamese. Had he written his books either in Bengali or English, he would have done better.

I was in Shillong from 1947 till 1973 with big gaps in between; had a house at Motinagar (just in front of Barada Sarmaâs parentsâ) which I sold after coming over to UK. My children had their early education in Shillong. We must have seen you there but then we were obviously not known to each other and you were then just a student.

Regards

Bhuban
