This story caught my eye. This Yuva Mancha is campaigning against illegals and are passing around fliers asking people not to employ them etc. and there has been an exodus of illegals from Dibrugarh
Now, as long as this Mancha employ peaceful means it should not be a problem. This is something like the Minute-Man group in Texas/Arizona against illegal Mexcians. The most upset person in that case is the Mexican President Vincente Fox. But look at our own home-grown version, it looks like the GOA is not too happy about this: ***A Staff Reporter in Guwahati adds: Based on an instruction by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, Minister of State for Home Rockybul Hussain and Home Commissioner BK Gohain have arrived in Dibrugarh for an assessment of the situation arising out of the recent exodus. *** Now, why on earth is the CM or this minister so concerned about illegals getting out of Dodge? I can understand the Bangladesh PM being upset, but why are local politicians getting concerned? -- Ram Youth body clarifies stand on migrants >From our Reporter DIBRUGARH, May 14: Chiring Chapori Yuva Mancha, whose campaign against illegal migrants through handbills is supposed to have triggered off the exodus of alleged Bangladeshis, today clarified that the Mancha had not resorted to any intimidation of any sort against any community or religious group but had used peaceful means for its campaign. Addressing newspersons, leaders of the Mancha which till date has no specific office bearers and refrained from disclosing their names, said that in its campaign, it had appealed to the public not to employ illegal migrants for their household duty, not to travel in vehicles driven by them, not to have any business transactions with them and not to shelter or accommodate them in rented houses. "The main objective of the platform is to make the public aware of the illegal migrants, to check illegal liquor dens mushrooming in the locality, to check betting and gambling, to curb petty thefts and to stop eve teasing in the locality", the leaders informed. They reiterated that the Mancha was in no way politically motivated or connected to any party, adding that in future too it would remain free from any political affiliation. "Our basic aim is not to gain any personal or political mileage. We look forward to a clean and healthy Dibrugarh town, free from any anti-social and nefarious activities," they said. The Yuva Mancha also expressed gratitude to all sections of the people including the media for their positive response in carrying out its campaign against the illegal migrants. A Staff Reporter in Guwahati adds: Based on an instruction by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, Minister of State for Home Rockybul Hussain and Home Commissioner BK Gohain have arrived in Dibrugarh for an assessment of the situation arising out of the recent exodus. _______________________________________________ Assam mailing list [email protected] http://pikespeak.uccs.edu/mailman/listinfo/assam Mailing list FAQ: http://pikespeak.uccs.edu/assam/assam-faq.html To unsubscribe or change options: http://pikespeak.uccs.edu/mailman/options/assam
