I remember many years ago, Assamese youths in droves became
'sawalambi' (self-sufficient), by becoming fish vendors, rickshaw
pullers, auto rickshaws etc. It was great for a while, seeing young
men doing the menial jobs that was traditionally a Bihari occupation
in Assam. But soon, these young men started charging more than the
market would allow, and gave up the 'business'.

I think the illegals take not only the blue colar, but also some white
colar jobs. So, this is the time for the unemployed to avail of this
sudden vacuum. This other report I sent to the net, talks about this
vacuum suddenly created by this exodus- no rickshaws plying, or
construction work sites empy in many cities & towns

If this opportunity is not seized, then all it does is invite more
illegals into the state. Availability of jobs easily are the biggest
attraction for illegals. If that factor is removed, illegals would opt
for other places.

IMHO, the Mancha's movement ought to have both these angles covered.
Get rid of the illegals (deport them or whatever), but at the same
time make sure locals can fill those jobs up.
