KJD, I think most will agree with you on the causes/symptoms etc that you have listed.

Easier said than done. Could you give us a practical way of how one should go about this 'getting rid of the current system of governance'? I know you and others were gung ho on a 'benevolent dictatorship' as a quick salve for all the ills. Heck, if that works, I am all for it. But all that only amounts to telling us a couple of things: (a) we have a rotten system of governance, which is responsible for all the ailments in Assam. (b) we need to get rid of the present system of governance and (c) replace it with some system like a benevolent dictatorship or something else. Now, it would be really nice if you could give us a pragmatic prescription as to how the people in Assam (or the Center) can dump the present system of governance and replace it with a better system (albeit a dictatorship), given the present ground conditions. History has taught us that changes in governance (good or bad) take a long time to take effect. Even the drastic change in Iraq from a decidedly evil despot to a democratic setup seems to have run into major roadblocks, and today Iraq is closer to a civil war, than in any type of governance (good or bad). My guess is it will be harder than cleaning the Agean stables. No, no don't get me wrong, I too think that there are serious problems. You keep telling me it the 'System of Governance', while I keep thinking maybe its the 'people' that keep getting elected or the officials that don't care, while the system is fine. If we were to magically replace the US system (a functioning one) on India (or Assam for that matter), and 10, 20, 30 years later, what can we expect? Will we back to square one - with all the trappings of inefficiences, corruption and what have you? or Will we be the new shining example for all the free world to see and long for? Take a wild guess.
