Hi,
During our Graduation (Commencement) ceremony somone
mentioned that Bill Gates had dropped out of Harvard.
I had imagined him to be a high school drop out.
This new magazine --the only one by Harvard Alumni
www.02138mag.com (02138 is the postal code of this
area) confirms that he had indeed joined harvard and
was in the class of 1977 which he never completed.
Mira Nair is also featured. Rahul Gandhi too famously
never completed his program at Harvard- as did one of
my classmates -as I learnt just last night --due to
intense pressure of studies it seems .
Incidently, I am emailing fro Harvard computers of
areas I had never access to as a student --since they
needed password and login of the Harvard College - I
just happened to read a leaflet meant for the alumni
(which offcially I am now) --as part of the facilities
provided to them for their annual get together here.
They can use the library and computer facilties with
with the password and login menioned therein -right
now I am using the slick IMac computers -for the first
time -in the science center.
These days I am juggling where to launch my job search
--DC or Boston. DC has more jobs in NGOs but Boston
has many Univ research postions and teaching jobs
--the top and bottom priority for me. I completed
today the final formaility to get a teacher license to
teach math in Massachustetts - to be prepapred for the
worst --if I do not get a research assistant's job in
boston or DC or consultants job in DC .
Played Baseball for the first time in US -last night
with batchmates.
I used to tell my students about Bill Gates example
incase they do not feel inclined to study further --
now I am realizing that he had passed thru the same
gates as I am doing now (these days for job search)..
