Hi all,
For me Assam 2005 was the best thing happened to me in the last 11 months in the USA. I liked everything about it. One great thing was to meet the people in person with whom I have been interacting for the last 14 months through Assamnet- Alapana Baidew, Jugalda etc. Alpana Baidew appeared to be exactly the same as I always imagined. It was great when some people could associate me with the 'me' in the e mails. It was embarassing too  when some people remarked "O! Oxom mailot je khub mail pothai thaka , xei Priyankoo ne?!!!!".
Meeting Mahesh-da and looking at his paintings was a real pleasure.

Meeting Jitul Xonowal and being with him was a time to remember till long for me. I was amused by his simplicity and cheerful personality. For  us who were in high schools in the 90s,  Jitul Xonowal means a world!! We grew up listening to him all the time, we fell in love for the first time listening to him! I called my high school classmate in the US and made him jealous with my stories about Jitul. I promised to send him Jitul's baggage tag, which I skillfully pocketed in Coronado Springs!!

I also enjoyed the late night chats, where I was subjected to mass teasing because of my indeliberate bachelordom! Thanks to Malabika-ba et al.!!

I heard lots of fairy tale-sounding stories from Utpal-da and Gautam-da. It was good to see people meeting after 38 years, 17 years and so on!

My Taiwanese, Japanese and Peruvian friends were pretty amazed by the celebrations. They think that Assamese people are very good looking (both sexes!!). My Taiwanese friend boasted that some people thought him to be an Assamese. This friend, Jimmy is very interested in Assamese langauge and culture. He even met Anjan-da in Taiwan.

My Japanese friend found the Bihu dance and the Mekhela-sador designs
pretty amazing. He actually wanted to take a photo with a mekhela sador wearing Assamese woman, but we could not manage that due to lack of time. Till today they have been asking about Assam and Assamese.

Jimmy was very impressed with Kedar da.

Our final Bihu Dance was real great. Ram-da your dances had been great,no matter whatever baidew's opinion is. But the award of Bihu-Konwar ,of course, goes to Ganesh-da.

I am really looking forward to attend Assam 06 ,wherever that is!!
