Announcement from USINPAC: Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh
Will Address the Joint Session of Congress on July 19, 2005
June 24, 2005 Washington, DC - House Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-Ill)
confirmed today that Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh will address a Joint Session of Congress on July 19, 2005 at 10:00 AM when he pays a state visit to the United States. Dr. Singh is the first Prime Minister of India on a state visit post 9/11. This makes this visit a very special occasion and is of great significance to the growing strategic relations between India and the United States.
House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-TX) in a discussion with USINPAC
mentioned that he is excited and delighted that Prime Minister Singh is
paying a state visit to the Capital and looks forward to welcoming him.
A large number of Senators had urged for this decision led by Senators
Cornyn (R-TX) and Clinton (D-NY), Co-Chairs of the Senate India Caucus.
Co-Chairs of the House Caucus on India and Indian Americans, Representatives Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) and Gary Ackerman (D-NY), in a letter signed by 70 colleagues had urged Speaker Hastert to schedule a joint session of Congress for Prime Minister Singh. US India Political Action Committee (USINPAC) is delighted that the Joint Session of Congress for Prime Minister. Manmohan Singh is confirmed.
