Now my landlord tells me this is normal that if someone gives a party in a hotel then the guests are supposed pay for all eatables!!! in DC.

Hoever in Boston I had thrown my birthday party alongwith my classmate Peter Cooper, both had B'Day on 15 Jan. I put in 130dollars. He chipped in the rest - which covered for food and one drink each. nymore drinks were to be paid by those who ordered them.

My roomate vomitted in the train station - his first time. Slept of the rail platform  floor for an hour at our stop - while it rained. I had to cook noodles to revive him. And that is after his parents sent him to India for 3 years to do his schooling in Middle School level. Speaks Kannada and Hindi very well though. Gets hit upon by young non-US citizen girls who want US citizenship - even offered money by their boyfriends etc!! for only one year marriage -- they do not know the rules.

i think NRI kids tend to get spoilt when they visit India - by all their relatives and friends - who try to use them as a weak link to get into US themsleves. So I feel it is a bad idea to send NRI kids to India to study Indian culture while they in school. They should go to India only when they are mature enough or very very small.

Any views?

Hi,

I am just coming from a birthday party of one of my seniors - on a hip hop street full of night clubs. It was the worst party of my life - surely.

I had 3 resasons for going to that party -- and none was fulfilled .

One - my landlord needed to get married - so excellent for him to attend this bash thrown by a South Indian girl -- he got a boil in the tongue and wanted to study for his PMP - Project Management Professional exam -didn't come.

Second - to network with other seniors -- noone else was there.

Thrid -- to get some free food --- most surprisingly --even the water was to be paid for. Not even a brithday cake - even when we returned from our jaunt outsiude later for a few minutes

Thankfully, my spolit brat room mate - US brought up - led the way out just after 5 minutes -- and he got drunk with 5 shots of rum - neat - and one beer - in another bar. We did meet another group - one guy from Bangalorew --who were studying with Infosys Chairman Murthy's son  at Cornell Univ.

Now my drunk roomy is lying on a subway rail platform bench - despite an Orange level security alert - against South ASians in suspicious activitiues - talk about American Born Confused Desis (he is already overdraft from his bank - on his frist week in the job).

It is better to have an intelligent enemy than a foolish friend.

What a life!

Umesh

PS: And we had to run half a mile to reach in time to escape the $5 cover charge per person after 10:30 pm. -- feeling hungry still
