IM(DT) repeal
Sir,– It is really a matter of shame on the part of all political parties that the IM(DT) Act declared illegal by the Supreme Court was in force in Assam for more than two decades. The matter is also dangerous as far as the security of the nation is concerned. The verdict is definitely a relief for all patriotic people. It also gives indirect relief to all political parties that they are at least freed from the blame of retaining or repealling the Act. Now is not the time for enacting another Act equivalent to IM(DT) but an Act that will invite drastic action for a person who helps illegal migrants directly or indirectly. Political parties should not play with security of the country. Can we call the former Movement leaders presently acting as active and powerful leaders of different political parties (both national as well as regional) to devote their potential to solve a issue raised by themselves once ?

Hats off to Sarbananda Sonowal, MP for his silent but dedicated effort in repealing the illegal Act with the only available legal option. – Yours etc., DIPAK KUMAR SARMA, Ujan Bazar, Guwahati.
