INNER LINE PERMIT FOR ASSAM

Will the Minister of HOME AFFAIRS be pleased to state:-
(a) whether the Government proposes to introduce inner line permit in
Assam like other North-Eastern States in the near future;
(b) if so,the time by which it is likely to be introduced;
(c) if not,the reasons therefor;
(d) whether the introduction of the said permit would help to control
infiltration in the North-Eastern Region; and
(e) if so,the details thereof?

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HOME AFFAIRS(SHRIMATI RADHIKA V. SELVI)
(a): No,Sir.
(b): Does not arise.
(c) to (e): The inner line permit which is enforced under the Bengal
Eastern Frontier Regulation,1873 regulates movement of citizens of
India going beyond inner line prescribed by the State Government
without the permit.The inner line has been prescribed only in the
States of Arunachal Pradesh,Nagaland and Mizoram and there is no
proposal for introduction of inner line in other States.These permits
would require checking of the identity of Indian nationals and as such
are not directly linked with other measures to control infiltration in
the North Eastern region.
