Thanks James. Hmmm you were using Mac Mail, I have been too for debugging although the initial test was on another machine with T-Bird.
Where is your stunnel? From ASSP to the mail server or in front of ASSP? My problem looks like it's between client and ASSP because I turned off TLS on postfix as a debug measure. Could be the Net::SSLeay module.
