I've been having an issue with SMTP timeouts over the past few versions.
I believe it started happening with build 13285 or 13287. I started
getting complaints from users that they could not connect, and that
their SMTP clients would time out when attempting to connect. The more
load the server was under, the worse it would get. The timeout problem
was also occurring on the webmail client, which is on the same physical
machine as ASSP, and is whitelisted within ASSP. Nothing was being
logged that would indicate to me that there is a problem going on with
ASSP. The log shows that all workers are running and accepting mail.

If I revert to build 13283, the issues go away.

There is one other anomaly that I notice. For the longest time (years),
when I attempted to stop the (Windows) service under which ASSP runs, it
would sit at the "stopping service..." dialog for a couple of minutes,
and then fail, saying it timed out. ASSP would begin shutting down
during that time, but would not stop, and the perl.exe process would
still be in memory. Sometimes it would say that it had stopped, but the
perl.exe process will still be in memory, and it would still be doing
processing. Sometimes if I left it sitting for five minutes or more, it
eventually would finish what it was doing, stop, and unload itself.

Some time ago, something you did fixed that problem. Clicking Stop on
the service stopped ASSP within 5-10 seconds, and it never left the
perl.exe process in memory. This was great!

However, with the timeout problem I am experiencing, I am once again not
able to stop the ASSP process. The stop command times out, and ASSP can
take upwards of five minutes to actually shut down. Reverting to 13283,
this problem disappears.
