Hi all,

I've finished to provide a VMWare OVF for assp V2.

The VM's are based on FreeBSD 9.2.
There are two version available, i386(32Bit) and amd64(64Bit).

The VM hardware version is 7 (ESX 4 or higher). Requires 15GB diskspace
and 3GB RAM for the i386 and 20GB diskspace and 3GB RAM for the amd64
installation.

The following applications are preinstalled and as long as it is required,
they are preconfigured:

- assp V2
- perl 5.18.1 multithreaded with all required modules
- BerkeleyDB 5.3
- ptftk, xpdf
- tesseract
- razor2
- MySQL server and client 5.6.13
- apache 2.2 + php 5 + phpMyAdmin
- X11 + Xorg + gnome2
- ImageMagick
- Unix-ODBC
- net-snmp server + agent 5.6.2
- ClamAV
- dcc
- openssl
- mc
- postfix and postfix-admin

Some more ports are installed, use 'pkg info' to see them.

To give you a view of the memory consumtion of the two equal assp
installations:

i386 - requires 366 MB RAM after startup
amd64 - requires 654 MB RAM after startup

After making a donation of your choice to me for my effort at

(amd64)

you'll get two emails [mail from: [email protected]] [from: Thomas
Eckardt <[email protected]>] (noprocessing/whitelisting ??!!).
One with the download links and one with a login password. The mails and
web dialogs are possibly german - simply follow the links.
The email address used to give you download access is per default the same
you used in paypal - if you want another email address to be used for the
download, send me an email.
The download access will be disabled ~48 hours after you got the emails.

For each installation there are five file to download - asspV2_x64.001 ...
asspV2_x64.004 and asspV2_x64.crc (for the i386 variant the filenames are
asspV2_x32...). After the download the splitted files with the trailing
numbers must be joined together to a single file with the filename shown
in the .crc file. On nix use the 'cat' command on windows use 'copy /B'
command. Now you can import the asspV2_x64.ova in to VMWare.

- the VM has one ethernet E1000 interface configured to use DHCP (you may
configure more if required)
- there are two OS users(password) - root(root) , assp(assp) - change them
to your needs as soon as possible
- there are two mysql users(password) - root(root) , assp(assp) - change
them to your needs soon - both users are enabled for remote login
   - service mysql-server start
   - service apache22 start
   - browser http://host/phpmyadmin
   - or use 'mysql' or 'mysqladmin'
- configure the service startups in /etc/rc.conf
- the root password for the assp GUI is the default, 'nospam4me' - change
it soon - http://host:55555
- to start gnome2 - use 'startx' (only 'X' or 'Xorg' don't work)
- to change the locale and keyboard layout, edit ~/login_conf or
/etc/login.conf
- the current timezone is UTC (
http://howtobsd.com/tips/how-to-set-timezone-freebsd.html)
- to remove the user and password hints at logon - edit /etc/motd soon
- to change the hostname - edit /etc/rc.conf
- configure /etc/resolve.conf - possibly configure named (DNS-server),
which is enabled per default
- to configure the system networking use 'sysinstall' or a gnome session
- to start assp in interactive mode use the 'assp_interactive' command
(provided to the 'assp' user only)
- keep in mind: only users of the group 'wheel' can use su - user 'assp'
is member of this group!
- the configured shell for 'assp' and 'root' is csh - the current keyboard
layout is en_US
- ulimit is set to 'unlimited' for all values and all users
- there is no need to configure in assp.cfg 'AsADaemon' - the rc.d script
and 'assp_interactive' are able to manage this
- there is no need nor is it recommended to use 'runAsUser', 'runAsGroup'
and 'ChangeRoot' in assp.cfg - all users are able to use lower TCP ports
(see /etc/sysctl.conf)

The assp, Perl 5.18.1 and BerkleyDB 5.3.21 installation is done using the
'assp' user account in to assp's home folder. Never use any other account
(also not root). To make any changes or installations in the assp's home
folder - only use the 'assp' user.
Never use the 'assp' user account to manage any system packages or files -
FreeBSD assumes that perl 5.14 NT or 5.16 NT is used - assp uses Perl 5.18
MT!

- Don't try to install KDE4 - this will possibly destroy the current mysql
installation.
- make a snapshot of the VM before upgrading the VMWare-Tools - some
VMWare-Tools-packages may not work or will destroy the current
VMWare-Tools installation
- sendmail is disabled in /etc/rc.conf - change the sendmail config
IP/listenport(25) before reenabling it - or change the assp
IP/listener(25)

The FreeBSD documentation is very good - nice complete man pages - and a
large web docu is available.

Keep in mind, FreeBSD is a UNIX not a linux - some handling is very
different - don't try - know or READ first!
Happy Mac OS X users - OS X is based on BSD.

Thomas
