Ah, yes, I was talking about normal perl, not the custom ActivePerl which may work better. I don't use windows so I don't know. If it does work - fantastic! Kudos to jan, gozer and the rest of the activestate (they are a few blocks away from us). Unfortunately memory allocation approach used on windows is quite different than on the rest of the platforms perl runs on. One day perl will adopt ActivePerl's model. Yup, every time you start a new thread it copies *all* data (it only shares the opcodes tree), because there is no copy-on-write in 5.8 (added in 5.9 partially). So essentially startup of new threads under heavy module utilisation is not scalable, as it may take like 30 seconds to start a new thread on a heavily loaded machine. [...] Though I can tell that people need to start using threads, because otherwise problems aren't going to be fixed. But it's a chicken and an egg problem, since most people find them unusable to start with... hoping that perl6 will have it right. -- _____________________________________________________________ Stas Bekman mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] http://stason.org/ MailChannels: Reliable Email Delivery http://mailchannels.com The "Practical mod_perl" book http://modperlbook.org/ http://www.linkedin.com/in/stasbekman http://perl.apache.org/ http://stason.org/photos/gallery/ [* best photos here *] Using Tomcat but need to do more?
