Good points. Something to add:

I've been Googling "ASSP" and related words. I am finding discussions 
regarding ASSP with skepticism of the volume and load that can be 
handled. Is anyone here adept at performing some benchmark testing, or 
does anyone have any real-world high-volume stats they can share and 
document?

Also, it seems that there was somewhat of a buzz about ASSP back around 
1.0.7, but I think the perhaps the lack of progress within the project 
for an extended period caused a lot of interest to drop-off.
