If you're referring to the IIS SMTP service, don't get me started on that! That service has caused me more grief and frustrations over the years than is worth it! I find it very difficult to rely on a service with very poor logging / debugging capacities, and I found that IIS SMTP didn't have much in respect to either. Several times already, I've had mail just not get delivered, but couldn't find any logging useful enough to explain why the service wasn't sending email. When I installed a third party mailer, all ran smoothly. Suffice it to say that I don't plan to rely on the IIS SMTP service to deliver my mail anymore at all.
