Exactly.  Those statements, at face value, doesn't necessarily mean
much.  First, we haven't established a level of trust or expertise to
the person making the critique/comparison, nor have we placed any value
to what the definition of college programming class A+ whatever equals
in the "real world".

I can establish that I have seen one of my Perl friends (an older
gentleman) totally bash my other friends (a recent college grad) work. 
Both do excellent work, and both make apps that do what they are
supposed to.  The older gentleman however does not agree with a lot of
the things the younger does, and/or does not agree with his reasons for
doing it the way he did.

I can't say as to who is right, wrong, or why.  I'm not nearly skilled
enough to make that judgment.  I just know there is a fundamental
disagreement between the two - even though they are both professionals
that do high-level work.
