my strategy for assp is about detecting offending hosts (IPs), not blocking 
single emails. So i use whitelists mostly to speed up processing. My single 
white is used for :
Don't do Black Box for these IPs*
Don't Delay these IPs*
ISP/Secondary MX Servers*   [i don't do bayesian filtering, so this is 
enough for me]

so my suggestion is to start easy and default assp to use a single list (of 
known good hosts) for all 'ip pass' strategies.

of course i check single messages against : bombh regex, blacklisted 
domains, surbl, attachment and virus.
