Agreed, for IN-coming mail. However, Nicole and I were talking about
OUT-going mail. The sender isn't forged, he's just an idiot who can't type
an (outgoing) address correctly.

Internal LAN User MUA --> MTA1 --> ASSP --> MTA2 (Relay) --> Internet

Or even with no ASSP involved: -

Internal LAN User MUA --> MTA1 --> MTA2 (Relay) --> Internet

MTA1 is the standard internal Mail Server that the users interact with -
Exchange or whatever. Users send outgoing messages to MTA1. MTA1 delivers
all mail to MTA2 (perhaps via ASSP for white listing purposes) and doesn't
need to worry about it anymore. MTA2 tries to deliver a message and
discovers that it's undeliverable (perhaps after 240 tries, or whatever your
setting is). MTA2 thus needs to notify the internal LAN user of a NDR. This
isn't an ASSP function at all, but since ASSP often requires the use of a
relay MTA for outgoing mail, it's relevant on this list, I believe.

Kind regards,

and that means no backscatter.

it's plaing wrong to accept a mail and then send an answer back to a
(forged) sender.
