I use Baretail, from Bare Metal Software to monitor the maillog file. It
does highlighting of the log and real time scrolling, ala tail from *nix
platforms.

I recently asked if they had any plans to implement a feature which
would trigger an external application when a REGEX matched, and his
response was:

"The ability to execute an arbitrary command upon noticing certain
strings is on our list of proposed features. It's too early to promise
anything yet, but it's very interesting to know you would find this
feature useful."
