Ok ok, don't all of you jump on me at once. I meant no disrespect to the developers of ASSP. ASSP is a fantastic product that I use religiously on my server. I'm just hoping to make ASSP better in any way that I can, to advance the project. I only meant this as an invitation for discussion, nothing more.
The "reinventing the wheel" comment was just noting that Bayesian filtering doesn't seem to be the sole focus of ASSP, but it is the sole and primary focus of other projects. I can't find any information on how ASSP handles it's bayesian filtering. I would really love to see some. Things like bayesian noise reduction are going to important as spammers increasingly try to poison the bayesian corpus with nonsense. I was hasty to make my claim, as it does appear that ASSP has been around longer than DSPAM. My apologies there. I had heard of DSPAM a number of years ago, when I had only heard of ASSP recently. And yes, clearly, I am being paid by a group of open source software writers to get one free open source software project to incorporate the work of another free open source software project. I'll be laughing all the way to the bank! This will be even more lucrative than that time I bought all that BeOS stock. With that out of the way... I'm going to attempt to perform some testing between the two engines.Using an identical spam/ham corpus, I hope to train both filters to see which is more effective in catching spam. I promise no results, as I'm hardly savvy at this sort of thing, but I'll do what I can. Again, no insult or injury intended, just honest, open conversation. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by DB2 Express Download DB2 Express C - the FREE version of DB2 express and take control of your XML.
