My experience with ASSP has been great so far, except for the documentation. Hopefully someone on this list can help me out.

I'm definitely an amateur when it comes to email server and I'm learning as I go - so I'm sure most of this will be obvious to most of you.

I have a firewall server that routes all Internet traffic within the company. Previous this simply passed mail traffic straight to a Groupwise MTA on a separate server but now, after installing ASSP, it accepts the mail into ASSP before ASSP proxies it to the MTA. That part seems to be working, although I'm not completely satisfied of that fact.

The part that is confusing is where it says in the documentation that there must be a mail relay after ASSP when sending mail. Where is the setting that allows me to tell ASSP where to send mail for processing? I can find all sorts of settings for receiving mail and passing it off to an MTA but what about sending mail through the relay toward the Internet?

Seth, looking at the wiki it looks like it saying two different things to me too.

The diagram says:

User -> MTA -> ASSP -> SMTP-Relay -> Internet

Then it says if you have an Anti-virus proxy, use:

Clients -> ASSP -> Anti-virus -> Mail server -> Internet

This to me looks to be the wrong way round. I'm no expert on this, but shouldn't the client connect to the MTA which then send it through ASSP? Ie Clients and Internet should be switched in the anti- virus scenario.

So Seth, just tell your MTA to send all outgoing email to ASSP which is listening on port 25.

Hope I'm not feeling you incorrect info!

James.
