I am not sure that ASSP is the product I need for my requirements and would
appreciate comments from the list indicating whether I am on the right track
or, if not, pointers to a relevant product. Hopefully the former. Other ISPs
must have encountered the same problem as we have.
Anyway, this is our situation:
We provide email services to a number of private and corporate subscribers
We also provide a mobile ISP service.
Our mail users fall into two categories:
those that use our SMTP servers (mainly private users)
those that use their own SMTP servers (mainly corporate)
We manage to keep our own SMTP servers clean however we have no control of
what passes through the other SMTP servers.
This results in our dynamic IP addresses being blocked and our general
reputation being tarnished.
What we would like to do is:
1. configure the firewall so that any port 25 traffic to an external address
(i.e. not our own SMTP servers) gets forwarded to a proxy
2. run ASSP on that proxy
3. forward clean mail out the other side to the targeted SMTP server
4. send bounce notifications back to sender if the mail is spam
1 and 2 are easy.
For 3 it looks like ASSP will only be able to forward the mail to a
particular IP address. Is this truly the case or can it do what I require?
4 it probably does this already but I haven't got this far yet
The important thing is that the mail should pass through the target SMTP
server as though we had never touched it. There to received legalese and
signatures, etc. before being released.
Is this possible?
TIA
mike
