Hello People,

First of all a big thanks to all the people who helped me on this.
Apparently, I've been relying much too long on a piece of (obsoleted)
documentation that I used since 2002 (!)

Anyway, by following Fritzs' suggestions (and without me wanting
to point any fingers in case I did something stupid) and after
considering all the messages I got from you kind people out there,
here's what I finally did.

BTW, I _haven't_quite_yet_upgraded_the_ASSP_version_ ! I am still
running v1.2.6.
Here's what I did :

1. Got all the 300,000 plus messages (spam/ham) from the two relative
folders and tarred them

2. put them in a safe place and removed _everything_ from the
"/usr/local/assp/spam/" and "/usr/local/assp/notspam/" folders.

3. Untarred the messages in such a way that I got hold of all the messages
from 12.00a.m. August 1st, 2008 to today (October 24th, that is :-), with
the help of a couple of switches (thank you TAR !!)
BTW, here are the final result counts from the spam / ham files
_after_ the filtering, that is :

Spam items total : 7,827 (from August to now)
Ham items total : 6,480 (from August to now)

4. Put them in the relevant folders ("/usr/local/assp/spam/" and
"/usr/local/assp/notspam/") and rebooted the system

5. Started ASSP again and went to "Other Settings" -> "Max Files" and set
this to 18,000 (~8,000 + ~6,500 = 14,500)

6. Went to "Spam Control" -> "Use Subject As Maillog Names" and set this
to OFF

7. Stopped the ASSP process on the box

8. Went to the ASSP souce directory ("/usr/local/assp") and ran
   $> perl move2num.pl -r <ENTER>
An adequate number of dots appeared and then the prompt came back.

9. Started the ASSP daemon again.

Please let me know if everything is ok.

Thank you all people for your kind attention and replies. Many thanks
to Fritz and his effort trying to communicate with me (I am a bit slow
I know this :-).

ASSP rocks !

:-)
