Dear All,
Some time last week I upgraded from 2.4.5(15272) to 2.4.7.16036.
I noticed high cpu and did not pay attention to it, and went to bed.
This morning I was doing some maintenance on those servers and noticed an
usually high CPU load
on the mail gateway machine (ASSP machine).
Looking into it in some more detail it turns out that assp had been running
at over 99% CPU for over a week.
Nothing else was noticed. nobody noticed slower mail or anything.. logs
appeared okay, all okay, except for
the 99% CPU. Normally ASSP runs at about 0.3%.
Restarted service, applied updates, rebooted server, nothing worked. After
2 mins ASSP would shoot up to 99.x% CPU and stay there.
Downgrading to 2.4.5 solves the problem.
Upgrading brings it back.. from less than 1% CPU it shoots up to nearly
100%.
What I did not try was cleaning the spam folders and running rebuildspamdb
again.. (however it is a production machine, for all intents and purposes).
I have noticed that some others have had this problem.

Subject: [Assp-user] Ver 2.4.7 16036 CPU Load
causing a number replies.
Machine : Xenserver 6.2. Ubuntu 12.04, 4G RAM. Perl v5.20.0.
(I should be upgrading the server, Xenserver and Ubuntu some time in the
next few weeks and will happily report
back after I do so.. but it is not planned for a few weeks from now).
Feel free to ask for any outputs necessary.
Okay : I have seen posts that maybe this is not enough; however, I have
been happily running this mail gateway
with DNS and ASSP with close to zero CPU and 30% RAM usage for years now.
Messages Processed: 500 / day ; 18 max "Concurrent SMTP Sessions:".
Version 2.4.7.16036, on its own, shoots CPU up to 100% and leaves it there,
apparently, if 10 days is a good enough
metric for permanency, permanently.
Happily running right now on 2.4.5. (ASSP at 0.2% CPU)
I have not tested any release in between.
I cannot find in the various email runs anything that indicates some sort
of solution yet.
Well : that is my one vote that something is causing this.
Kind regards,
Edward
