Alex: I would say that the term "gray/white route" only applies to international routes. They can and are used by larger carriers that have the ability to closely monitor their performance, and can substitute them on the spot the moment the route goes down or drops in quality, which they invariably do. Basically, they are to be enjoyed while they last. Personally, I hate to see a provider sell me a grey route for the price of a white one... to me, it is a reason to pull the plug on them on the spot.
