Don't know about where you are, but in the US, most banks charge a hefty fee for wire transfers. Between $10 for domestic up to $50 for international (and sometimes more) wire transfers.
In the world of non-existent margins (i.e. VoIP), every $10 that one can avoid spending counts. :) N.
