Its on FreeBSD 8.1-STABLE. There's nothing peculiar in my .profile. I use bash which is preserved on 'su -m'. This was over an ssh connection to the host. The only special thing I do to my xterm is setting the following resource in .Xresources: XTerm*titeInhibit: true Which prevents the annoying linux paging behaviour on leaving pagers and editors IIRC.
