Having followed the quest for FreePBX on FreeBSD for sometime, I've rolled
around a thought for a bit. Given the difficulties of the port, would it
make more sense to create a jail environment mimicking Linux, and adjusting
the port to use a jail target install?

There's already this: http://wiki.freebsd.org/Image/Linux/CentOS55

Which seems like a good starting point since Trixbox is based of CentOS
IIRC.
