Ordinarily, I wholeheartedly agree with you. I think that ternary statements 
make it easier to grasp what is going on in an 
'if-this-do-that-else-do-this-other-thing' situation, because all the logic you 
need to decipher the behavior is in one line of syntax. 

The reason I opted out of using 'ternary-esque' statements in this code was 
because of this stackoverflow answer: http://stackoverflow.com/a/394814. 
Originally, I had used quite a few of them but, I had a suspicion that there 
would issues with respect to readability, especially since a couple of the 
statements were a bit large and nested. So, for consistency, I removed all of 
them from my review draft.
