No, the channel driver does not need to do anything in particular to be usable with the T.38 gateway support in Asterisk 10; it just needs to be compatible with Asterisk 10.
There are some things the channel driver can do to help with FAX overall, and dialplan construction, like offering 'fax detect' and allowing for programmable (dynamic) buffer policies on DAHDI channels.
