Doesn't asterisk cache the IP?  So even if your IP changes and Dynamic DNS has updated your IP to point to the new IP, asterisk will still see the old IP until you reload asterisk?

For SIP you need to change the externip= variable and then "sip
reload". If you detect the ip change using a cron script (dyndns.org
has info on this), you can easily do this, I did it for months until I
finally got a fixed ip.
