It looks like my gcc versions are different from the one that made the kernel and the one that made the zaptel stuff.

So then of the zt lines, do I only need:

install ztdummy /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install ztdummy && /sbin/ztcfg

On a side note: When poking around, I noticed in the zaptel Makefile that there is a section talking about ztdummy automatically being included on 2.6 kernels. Is this correct?

On to the main topic: Any ideas for troubleshooting this?

FATAL: Error running install command for ztdummy

Could you please provide the output of following:

 which modprobe
 modprobe --version

To make things simpler, do away with the stuff that the zaptel install
puts in /etc/modprobe.d/zaptel (or /etc/modprobe.conf ).

(ztdummy needs no ztcfg run after it)

Also, please provide the latest relevant kernel log messages:

 dmesg | tail
