I have no idea if Asterisk gains a significant advantage on 64bits v 32, but thought I would respond to the commonly perpetuated statement that, "The only advantage of 64bit is the extra address space and huge integers"

The x86 Instruction Set architecture allows for 8 general purpose registers.

The x86_64 ISA allows for 16, somewhat more flexible ones.

The potential here is for software that can effectively utilise the extra ones, will gain some benefit.
