I have talked with of a couple people(don't remember their names) who had this developed on a contract basis for the 1.0 Asterisk code tree, they did not want to release it to GPL because of how much it cost them and the fact that their code supposedly won't run on 1.2, but it is technically possible and has been talked about many times on the list.
