I've been working on this off and on for AGES. There are some SMS portal sites that claim to be able to do this as well, but I have not managed to find one.
I had found a company called bahamasystems which has an asterisk interface but it's a service and it's expensive. Another poster pointed me at nowsms.com. Looks a little more attractive (except for the Windows gateway part). However, I have not been able to find out the actual codes.
