No, it's not. Digium hardware echo cancellation cards also require you to say "echocancel=yes" in zapata.conf. The zaptel driver recognizes that the card possesses echo cancellation hardware and does not engage the software echo canceller for those channels. To summarize: if you want echo cancellation on Zaptel channels, you must enable it (echocancel=yes, or a number of taps) in zapata.conf. If hardware echo cancellation exists, it is used over software echo cancellation.
