Well then maybe I totally screwed up?  When I get the ocastic echo
canceller module, so I need to compile something special to get it to
'work'?   Digium said it would just work.

The firmware for the cards themselves is not loaded from Linux. The
firmware that is loaded from Linux is the firmware for the Ocastic echo
canceller module.

(The Xorcom Astribank, though, does require loading the firmware to the
card. But this is done by a userspace loader and not using the Zaptel
driver)
