I posted a query about CPU usage some time ago. I have * on a Debian machine.
I found that the chan_oss driver can consume 100% cpu - in the thread that calls
ast_select(), the sounddev descriptor always releases the call, even if no data is present
in the next read call.
I did not trace the fault into the oss driver, since I only needed the console for ring-tone
generation, and just stubbed out the descriptor from ast_select().
